WE PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS TO CREATE SUCCESSFUL CAREERS IN SPORTS AND CONTINUE TO DO WHAT THEY'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT. SPORTS IS A HOBBY FOR MOST, BUT A PASSION FOR US; SBI HELPS PREPARE STUDENTS TO MAKE THE TRANSITION INTO THE HIGHLY-COMPETITIVE SPORTS BUSINESS WORLD.”
The Sports Business Initiative (SBI) is a student organization within the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University for those interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry. We provide an opportunity for students to learn about the many potential career possibilities in sports.
Since beginning in 2013, the organization has continued to grow and has been recognized on campus including achieving the 2015 Best Event (Sports Business Summit), 2016 Most Improved Organization, 2017 Fowler College of Business Organization of the Year, and 2018 Fowler College of Business Outstanding Event!
What we do
Weekly Meetings
Every Thursday evening at 6 PM, we conduct engaging in-person weekly meetings. These sessions feature prominent guest speakers from the sports industry, who have held significant positions or currently hold recognizable roles. During these gatherings, they share their journey of breaking into the industry, recount notable experiences, discuss their various roles, and offer valuable advice for students aspiring to enter the world of sports. Exciting Site Visits
One of the best ways to gain hands-on experience in the sports industry is by visiting the main offices of various companies and organizations. Luckily, we are located in San Diego, a city with a strong presence in both professional and corporate aspects of sports, providing excellent opportunities for these site visits.
Community Involvement
SBI focuses on enhancing accessibility in the virtual environment. Our goal is to serve as a valuable resource for our community while helping all students connect further in the sports industry.
